Finance chief joins Celtic & Co from fellow Cornish fashion brand Seasalt

Sustainable clothing retailer Celtic & Co has appointed the finance chief of fellow Cornish fashion brand Seasalt.

Martin Hayball has joined the company as group head of finance. He was previously head of financial planning and analysis at Falmouth-based Seasalt, which he joined in September 2021. Before that, he held senior financial positions with utilities firms Pennon Group and South West Water.

James Williams, Celtic & Co managing director, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Martin at a pivotal time for our business as we build on the success of the last two years. He brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be a great addition to our leadership team.”

Mr Hayball added: “I’m excited about joining a growing sustainable business and helping to develop and implement the future finance strategy for the company, as well as leading and developing the finance team to help deliver our objectives.”

Celtic & Co was founded in 1990 by husband-and-wife team Nick and Kath Whitworth, and now employs around 90 permanent members of staff across two sites, with head offices at Indian Queens and its factory in Newquay.

The business hailed 2021 as its best year to date, when it reported a 75% increase in sales to £15.5m as the Covid lockdowns fuelled online shopping and the demand for comfortable clothing.

The company has also secured partnerships with high street retail heavyweights such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, and Next.

Seasalt meanwhile secured turnover of around £100m in its last financial year, after online sales jumped and store sales rebounded after the loosening of lockdown restrictions on retail.
