Celtic clash can be catalyst to stop Cumbernauld Colts losing streak, hopes boss David Proctor

Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor hopes their clash with Celtic B can be the catalyst to get them out of a seven game losing streak.

Proctor believes the Broadwood side have been able to raise their game against the bigger sides in the past and hopes they can do so again when Celtic come calling on Saturday.

The Hoops are eighth in the Lowland League and seven places above Colts in the standings, but Proctor reckons the pressure is off his side and that can allow them to get out of their rut.

Proctor said: “We do seem to do quite well against the top teams in terms of performances.

“We’ve always put on a good show and never let ourselves down, even if we haven’t got the results.

“We’ve had tough games against Broomhill, Stirling Uni, East Kilbride and Spartans over the last few weeks.

“They are all in the top four or five and although we haven’t had the results, we’ve certainly been in control at times in the games and not getting the rewards. We aren’t being outplayed or embarrassed.

“The boys do seem to step up in the bigger games and hopefully that will be the case on Saturday.

“There’s no pressure on us going into the game and if we get anything, it’s a bonus. People will be writing us off but we don’t mind that.”

Colts last tasted victory at home to Hearts B on September 3 and since they have suffered defeats to Dalbeattie in the Scottish Cup, league losses to East Kilbride, Broomhill, Stirling Uni, Gretna and Spartans, as well as a South Challenge Cup exit to Jeanfield Swifts.

But Proctor is confident the tide will turn.

He added: “We had five 18-year-olds starting against Spartans and we made a few changes for the cup game with Jeanfield. But there is enough in the squad to get that one result where, all of a sudden, the confidence is up and we can maybe go on a wee run.

“There is still the belief in the camp that will happen but you need to go and earn your luck.

“We need to keep working hard and once it turns, hopefully we go on that run.”
