Celtic captain Callum McGregor makes sly England dig

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor couldn't resist making a cheeky dig at the expense of England and their past failures at major tournaments.

The Scotland international took part in a quiz on UEFA's official YouTube channel alongside teammate Ryan Christie.

The duo had to answer a series of questions about the Euros, with Euro 2024 well underway in Germany.

One of the questions was 'Which of this year's participants has never won the Euros'. The options were Germany, England, Netherlands and France.

And it was here that McGregor saw his moment - and took it.

The 31-year-old initially responded: "Ah, England. It's England."

Christie added: "Aye, it's England."

The interviewer said: "That is correct. Losing finalists in Euro 2020 but have never won."

Christie replied: "Ah, close."

McGregor then chipped in with his dry sense of humour, saying: "That was a shame."

Gareth Southgate has come under some scrutiny today following England's 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday evening.

They do sit top of their group, however, fans have grown frustrated at the lack of balance in their team given the amount of talent they have available in their ranks.

Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney admits he's 'heartbroken' to have been ruled out the rest of Euro 2024 through injury.

The former Celtic defender was forced off with a serious-looking injury during Scotland's 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Wednesday night.

As the Arsenal player attempted to challenge Swiss striker Dan Ndoye, the 27-year-old pulled up in agony as he immediately clutched his hamstring.

He had to be stretchered off just after the hour-mark, as Scott McKenna was brought on by Steve Clarke as his replacement.

It was today confirmed that Tierney will play no further part in the tournament for the Scots, and it comes as a bitter blow to both the player himself and the national team.
