Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou earns Leeds 'love' tag as club legend urges club to 'push boat out'

Leeds United hero Paul Robinson admits he would LOVE to see Ange Postecoglou take over the top job at Elland Road.

The English Premier League outfit are on the look out for a new boss after sacking Jesse Marsch following a poor run of results. The sit 17th after 20 games with just goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone from the top flight. Sunday's defeat at Nottingham Forest allowed for a six point gap to form between the duo in the fight for survival.

One name who has been linked with the role is Carlos Corberan at West Brom - but former England international Robinson believes his old club need a man-manager at the helm and he would turn to the Celtic boss. He knows it would be difficult to prize him out of Parkhead at this stage but would love nothing more than his old club to push the boat out and make it happen. He also flagged a connection already in place with Harry Kewell on his staff.

Speaking via the Scottish Sun, he said: “I know there has been talk of Carlos Corberan at West Brom, but I personally would love to see Postecoglou come down from Celtic.

“They have to get somebody who hits the ground running.

“People talk about someone who knows the league inside out and know the players.

“But for me it has to be a man-manager.”

He continued: “I think it would be a very difficult time to get Postecoglou obviously, as it’s looking like they’re going to win the league again and another trophy for him up there.

“But I think of his man-management skills and the way he’s adapted himself to the Scottish Premier League and the trophies he’s won.

“He’s got Harry Kewell as his assistant up there, so there is a link already.

“I think it’s only going to be a matter of time before he does come to the Premier League and I’d love to see Leeds push the boat out and go and get him now.”

A Leeds club statement read: "Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.

"Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

"Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.

"We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

"The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days."
