Celtic and Dermot Desmond should reassess what brings 'shame' to club's name

The protest aimed at principal shareholder Dermot Desmond by the Celtic Fans Collective at the Alfred Dunhill Championship was described in a club statement as bringing 'shame upon the name of Celtic Football Club'. (Image: Stuart Wallace / Shutterstock)

I am always struck when travelling abroad to report on our clubs playing in Europe or on the national team by just how little, to be frank, any of the locals give a damn. The idea that there are a significant number of people from outside our borders who are following Scottish football with anything other than a passing interest is, in my experience, rather fanciful.

So, when some parochial catastrophe or another is described as ‘an embarrassment for the Scottish game’, or for some club or another, I wonder how the people of Barcelona, Berlin or Budapest are digesting the news, and reflect on how little I myself know or care of any particular result or rammy that has taken place anywhere outside of Bonnie Scotia.
