Celebrity Gogglebox's Rylan Clark defends himself after viewers' comments around mum Linda

Rylan Clarke has defended himself after Celebrity Gogglebox viewers slammed his treatment of mum Linda as the Channel 4 series came to an end on Friday night. The TV presenter took to Twitter to clear up accusations that he had been 'horrible' to his co-star in the latest episode.

The pair were seen laughing together in Rylan's Essex home as Linda struggled to recall the name of the snack she was hankering for. Viewers were in hysterics trying to guess what the 69-year-old meant as she asked her son for some 'suchet'.

Rylan, 33, teased his mum asking her to repeat the word before she eventually gave up and told him to "p*** off". Linda, who described the food as 'chicken with breadcrumbs round it', left fans baffled, but Rylan told his Twitter followers as the show went out that she had in fact wanted some sushi.

Linda, who suffers from Crohn's Disease, did get her sushi eventually, Rylan later revealed as he hit back at trolls telling them to "get a sense of humour". He told his fans Linda gets "whatever she asks" for.

Rylan posted: "For anyone saying I'm horrible to mum please get a sense of humour, she got her sushi…. Also built her a house, whatever she asks for, and a new hedge trimmer this week….. she’s good. Look after your mums, and also have a laugh with them."

Fans were quick to defend the star as they praised the playful relationship between the pair. Sue Parkinson commented: "Don't think you're horrible. It's clearly a lovely warm relationship you have with your mum. As you say sense of humour is needed!"

CeCe said: "I can't believe people think you're being serious. So obviously just bantz!", while Debbie wrote: "You and your mum make my night I love watching you together."

Jo Lewis said: "You can tell its banter from a mile off!! You've got the best relationship."

Earlier this week, Rylan left fans disappointed when he posted a snap of the final moments of filming for the current series. Posting a photo of him and his mum posing alongside the Celebrity Gogglebox crew, he said: "And just like that Team Blue from @c4gogglebox finished."

Rylan and Linda joined Celebrity Gogglebox in 2019 and took part in two series before the pair took a break in 2021. Rylan had said their absence was due to Linda’s ill health, but he later revealed it was actually down to his own personal struggles.

During a recent interview on This Morning, he said he hadn't been in a good place following his split from husband Dan Neal after six years of marriage. The couple, who met via Big Brother, ended their marriage last year, with the news coming out amid Rylan's four-month break from the spotlight.
