Celebrity chef James Martin has revealed he has had to go to hospital for an MRI scan. The 50-year-old chef said he is 'getting old' as he posted a picture from hospital on social media.
After also sharing a picture of his dog, Ralphy, James wrote: "Seems as if we are both getting old fella! Dropped him off for an op this morning, now it seems I need one."
An MRI - magnetic resonance imaging - is a noninvasive way to examine organs, tissues and the skeletal system.
One fan replied: "Hope it’s nothing serious for either of you James." Another added: "Goodness. Hope it’s not too serious for either of you," another added.
"I hope it’s for something like an ingrown toenail or something minor. And, poor Ralphy, I hope he’s ok and his op is something minor too," one wrote.
Jams recently shed three stone during lockdown, ditching a soft-drink habit for water, reports The Mirror.
Speaking on Loose Women recently he said: "I don't drink tea or coffee so fizzy drinks were always sort of my nemesis really and in the kitchen particularly.
"We found that in Covid I wasn't concentrating and getting this massive sugar rush, so I just swapped to water. The minute I swapped to water, it was nearly three stone."
He added: "It is amazing, the difference it makes, your brain is sharper, your eyes are better, much more alert."
The Saturday Kitchen host, who often keeps his private life out of the spotlight, also revealed that he struggles with dyslexia.
Despite writing 34 cookery books, James says that he is "severely dyslexic".
Before he realised he had the learning difficulty, he said that he "cried his eyes out" when he found it hard reading the script on This Morning.
"I failed all my exams at school, I've never read a book in my life. I've written 34 books but the way I do it I dictate it," he explained to Hello! magazine.
"A lot of this crew think I'm ignoring them, it’s mainly because I have trouble reading a script."
Martin presented the BBC cookery series Saturday Kitchen from 2006 until 2016, before leaving the BBC.
More recently, Martin has presented James Martin's French Adventure (2017), Saturday Morning with James Martin (2017–present) and James Martin's American Adventure (2018) for ITV.
Martin's family were farmers on the Castle Howard estate where he helped his mother in the kitchen. He first appeared on television in 1996 on programmes including James Martin: Yorkshire's Finest (set in various Yorkshire locations with an emphasis on Yorkshire cuisine), Ready Steady Cook and The Big Breakfast.
Martin co-presented BBC Food's Stately Suppers with Alistair Appleton, and then appeared on the Channel 4 programme Richard & Judy, where he would visit a member of the public in their own home who had been nominated to be cooked a 'comfort food' meal. From 2006 until 2016, he was the presenter of the BBC One show Saturday Kitchen.
In Autumn 2021, Martin teamed up with potato company Albert Bartlett to create the new menu for the launch of SpudULike by James Martin chain of restaurants. In September 2021, Martin launched a range of premium French wines which are produced in the village of Névian near Narbonne in the Corbières region.
Last year, Martin was again voted ‘TV Personality of the Year’ at the Fortnum & Mason Awards and Martin's Saturday Morning scooped Best Food Show at the TV Choice Awards. In November 2021, Martin won 'Most Influential Chef, Cook or Food Writer' award, and also 'Best Cookbook', for 'Great British Adventure: A celebration of Great British food' at the Great British Food Awards.
