Celebrities hit the phones hard at ICAP charity day

Showbiz and sporting stars poured into one of the City’s biggest trading floors today for the annual ICAP Charity Day for good causes.

Early arrivals included “hard man” film and TV legend Ray Winstone and his actor daughter Jaime Winstone, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK. Other celebrities “helping” brokers with deals included Bill Nighy, on behalf of Into Film; Will Poulter, representing Alzheimer’s Research UK; and former footballer and TV presenter Alex Scott, who was fundraising for Refuge.

Those joining later included Sir Rod Stewart, Gillian Anderson, Rachel Riley and Simon Cowell.

It was the 31st ICAP Charity Day when 100% of the revenues and broker commissions generated are donated to fund specific charitable projects. Since 1993, the event has raised over £160 million which has gone to more than 2,900 charitable causes around the world.

Nicolas Breteau, group chief executive officer, TP ICAP, said: “At a time when the cost-of-living crisis means the charitable sector continues to face significant financial pressure, we are delighted to be supporting 15 charities in the UK, and many more across the globe.”

TP ICAP, formed via a merger between the original ICAP business and Tullet Prebon is a money broker, tradings shares, currencies, government bonds and interest rates derivatives on behalf of thousands of clients. On a typical day, it trades more than £1 trillion worth of instruments.

On the charity day, ICAP’s rivals often take long lunches to push more business towards the celebrity callers and their charitable causes.
