Celebrities go for gold in fan support at the Games

If you caught a glimpse of American rapper Snoop Dogg during the torch relay at the Paris Olympics, you weren't dreaming.

He has proudly taken up the role of the "unofficial, official" ambassador for Team United States.

The rap legend, who is at the Games as a special correspondent with US network NBC, is among a horde of celebrities who have flocked to Paris as crowds are welcomed back following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Snoop has been spotted at Olympic events in custom T-shirts bearing the likeness of his favourite athletes such as superstar gymnast Simone Biles.

He has been keeping fans in the loop on social media platform X, where he shared a photo of himself carrying the Olympic torch at the opening ceremony.

Snoop isn't the only hip-hop legend with Olympic fever, with Flavor Flav making waves as a major sponsor of the US women's water polo team.

The Former Public Enemy hype-man announced the sponsorship after seeing an Instagram post where captain Maggie Steffens detailed how some Olympians had to fund their own dreams by juggling multiple jobs in order to train for the Games.

Whether from the sidelines or his wallet, Flavor Flav has showed unwavering support for the water polo team, catapulting the sport into mainstream media as the unlikely partnership goes viral online.

Rock stars, fashion icons, film directors, actors and Olympic legends have been spotted at the Games, including Tom Cruise, Mick Jagger, Anna Wintour, Stephen Spielberg, Michael Phelps and Ariana Grande.

Australian athletes have also been supported by homegrown superstars with Queen Mary of Denmark meeting athletes at the Olympic Village.

The Tasmanian-born queen met her husband, King Frederik, at a pub during the Sydney Olympics in 2000 after celebrating Ian Thorpe's record-breaking 400m freestyle win.

Queen Mary was also spotted cheering on fellow Tasmanian Ariarne Timus in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay final.

Actor Nicole Kidman made an appearance in the stands in Paris alongside her family.

Kidman was joined by country music singer husband Keith Urban and their daughters at the final of the women's artistic gymnastics in the hopes of catching Biles in action.
