It’s been 35 years since Glasgow band Deacon Blue released their debut album Raintown, which remained in the UK charts for a year and a half.
The album, often considered the band's finest work, has a consistent theme of struggles that come with inner city life. With a view of Glasgow plastered on the album cover, there’s no mistaking which city they were talking about.
Speaking to the Daily Record in 2012, lead vocalist Ricky Ross dived into the backstory of the songs from the album. Regarding the song Raintown, he said: “It’s about work, not good work and weather compounding that, and things that bring you down.
