Cedwyn Scott insists there is 'more to come' after first Notts County goal

A goal and an assist, not a bad way to mark your first start for Notts County, and there is still plenty more to come insists Cedwyn Scott.

After struggling in pre-season after contracting Covid, the Magpies striker was given his chance from the start by Luke Williams at Halifax, and produced an excellent performance with Notts fans seeing the relationship between himself and Macaulay Langstaff that saw them score 52 goals in National League North last season.

The 23-year-old lasted 61 minutes at The Shay Stadium on Saturday, with manager Williams considering the three-goal lead and the visit of Solihull Moors to Meadow Lane on Monday.

And whilst a goal and assist can be seen as an excellent performance for most, Scott insisted he was not at his best against Halifax and explained what he would like to play like going forward.

"It was not vintage but we got the job done," said Scott.

"I want it to be a bit more like the Chesterfield performance, getting on the ball a bit more and being a bit silkier and smoother, obviously there were boundaries in front of me that didn't allow me to do that today."

Today was the first time we saw the Gateshead duo from last season partner together in the black and white of Notts County, and it really whet the appetite of the travelling Notts fans, who got to see the understanding the pair have first hand.

And the Notts number 19 put into words his relationship with Langstaff and explained his understanding with his strike partner is almost instinctive having played with each other for a number of years.

"We know each other's game really well, he is rapid like you saw for the third goal, I didn't even need to lift my head up , I just knew that he was going to be in there in behind, and he showed his composure, it was unbelievable.

"Our games compliment each other well, his stretching of the pitch, defenders are bothered about going that way and I can operate a little bit deeper, and time it well to get in behind so we work with each other really well.

"When he scores and I score, it drives both of us on, but it's good rivalry and we feed off it well and hopefully we can emulate what we did last season."

With two games in the space of three days, the fitness of Scott will be telling and whether he is able to start against Solihull Moors on Monday, with the striker answering honestly about where he is at.

"It will be tough, I think it is tough anyway.

"It was my first start today, and hopefully I can build on that, I'll be a little leggy tomorrow but I'll go through the right recovery stuff tomorrow and hopefully I'll be in the best possible shape to go again on Monday."
