Cedric Itten Rangers future latest as striker linked with Switzerland transfer return

Cedric Itten Rangers future latest as striker linked with Switzerland transfer return

RANGERS outcast Cedric Itten could be set for a return home to Switzerland after Young Boys Bern sports director Christoph Spycher refused to deny interest in him.

The Swiss striker was recalled to Ibrox from a loan spell to Germany with relegated Greuther Furth in January, but he revealed he was laid low with a mystery bug that prevented him from playing.

Even when fully fit, the 25-year-old barely featured although he did score against Hearts in the final game of the season - his first goal for the club for 15 months.

It's been reported in Switzerland that YB are planning a major summer overhaul and Itten is their main target. They currently sit a massive 19 points off the pace at the top of the league set by FC Zurich.

And the club's sports director Spycher was quizzed on their interest in Itten. He said: "We never comment on speculation. Sometimes the rumours are the truth, sometimes they are completely wrong.

"You'll know when something happens."

Itten signed for Rangers in a £2.7 million fee in August 2020 from St Gallen and still has two years left of his deal.
