Cedric Itten breaks Rangers exit silence as he reveals secret agony amid Ibrox struggles

Former Rangers flop Cedric Itten insists he has no regrets about his ill-fated move to Ibrox because the memories of their title success will live with him forever. And he's determined to use his move to YB Bern to seal a place in the Switzerland squad at the World Cup this year.

Itten returned home in the summer after his £2.7 million move to Rangers two years ago, with Young Boys paying the Ibrox side £1.5 million to bring him home. He scored just six league goals in 33 appearances for Rangers, although he only started eight league matches.

However, he insisted he loved his time at Rangers. He stressed: "In retrospect, I would do everything the same way again. "I have had countless experiences that will benefit me for the rest of my life. Football in Scotland - it's a different world. I was part of the Rangers team that won what is probably the most important championship title in the club's history. Celtic were going for ten titles in a row and that's never happened in Scotland, so that was not allowed to succeed under any circumstances.

"A year ago, I played a great pre-season, probably the best of my life, with goals against Real Madrid and Arsenal - but I still had no chance at Rangers. But the club communicated that to me openly and honestly.

"I went on loan to Greuther Furth, but was recalled by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and then I caught Covid and then a further virus. I've never been so sick as a professional. I lost five kilos. I was completely out of the team again.

"The whole story ended up dragging on for three months. Now I want to get back playing here and scoring goals. Playing for Switzerland means a lot to me. I play football for moments like this.

"Just when I talk about my three goals for my country and the celebrations afterward, I get goosebumps."
