THOUSANDS of people in cities and towns across Scotland have gathered to show support for Palestinians caught up in the violence in Gaza.
For the second weekend in a row thousands of people turned out for the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign demonstration in Edinburgh.
Protesters held signs with slogans such as “Ceasefire now”, “Stop the genocide” and “Free Palestine, boycott apartheid Israel”.
Demonstrations also took place in Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee, Greenock, Aberdeen and Forres.
Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters also turned out in London.
Dozens of people with Union flags stood close to the Cenotaph which was guarded by police officers as a pro-Palestine protest filed past.
Protesters could be heard chanting “shame on you” as they crowded around the people.
Violent clashes between police and protesters are also reported to have occurred near Downing Street.
Officers appeared to be detaining someone before demonstrators began scuffling with them.
Punches and kicks were thrown and officers ordered the demonstrators to move away.
One person was taken to the floor and carried away to chants of “let him go” from other protesters.
Cries of “Allahu akbar”, the Arabic phrase for “God is great” also rang out.
A woman was also knocked over by police, which was startled by fireworks let off at the protest.
A number of the horses bolted at the sound of the fireworks near the Houses of Parliament.
The woman was knocked to the floor and trampled on but appeared to be fine when brought back to her feet.
Red and green flares were also let off by protesters.
It comes after the Metropolitan Police said its officers would intervene during pro-Palestine protests in London if anyone is heard to chant the word “jihad”.
Earlier this week video emerged of a protested calling for “jihad” in Israel at a fringe event outside the Egyptian Embassy.
