The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added 94 confirmed measles cases to its national tally this week, bringing the 2026 total to 2,465 and setting the stage for a federal committee review this month that will help determine whether the United States still qualifies as having eliminated the disease. Most of the newly reported infections were in Pennsylvania.
The timing is what changed. A national verification committee that reviews CDC measles data is scheduled to meet in mid-August and forward its assessment to the Pan American Health Organization, whose Regional Verification Commission will announce a determination in November.
