The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday declared Class 10 and Class 12 results for the 2022-23 session. While 93.12% students passed Class 10 exams, the pass percentage was 87.33 in Class 12.
The pass percentage for both Classes 10 and 12 in 2022-23 was lower than 2021-22. For Class 12, the pass percentage dipped by 5.38% compared to last year (92.71%). For Class 10, in 2021-22, the pass percentage was 94.40% and this year it has decreased by 1.28%.
No merit list
Officials said the board has decided to do away with the practice of awarding first, second and third division to students based on their scores. “No merit list will be declared by the CBSE to avoid unhealthy competition among students. However, the board will issue merit certificate to 0.1% students who have scored the highest marks in various subjects,” a senior official said.
In Class 10, 1,95,799 candidates (9.04%) scored above 90% and 44,297 (2.05%) scored above 95%. For Class 12, 1,12,838 (6.80%) students scored over 90% marks and 22,622 (1.36%) students scored above 95%.
Girls have performed better than boys in both Class 10 and 12. In Class 10, 94.25% of girls passed, while the pass percentage of boys stood at 92.27%. Among the transgender community there is 90% pass percentage. For Class 12, 90.68% of girls passed, while 84.67% boys cleared the exam. The pass percentage among transgender students is 60%.
Trivandrum (99.91%), Bengaluru (99.18%), Chennai (99.14%), Ajmer (97.27%) and Pune (96.92%) regions have the highest pass percentage in Class 10. In Class 12, Trivandrum topped the pass percentage with 99.91%. The pass percentage in Bengaluru is 98.64%, 98.64% in Chennai, 93.24% in Delhi West and 91.84% in Chandigarh. On the other hand, Prayagraj scored the lowest pass percentage at 78.05%, followed by Dehradun at 80.26% and Noida at 80.36%.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV), a system of Central schools for talented students from rural areas who lack access to accelerated learning due to financial disadvantage, have secured the highest pass percentage at 97.51% in Class 12. They are followed by Central Tibetan School Administration schools at 96.77%, Kendriya Vidyalaya schools at 92.51%, independent schools at 87.95% and government aided schools at 87.17%.
The board has notified that it will conduct the next session — 2024 exams for both Classes 10 and 12 from February 15 onwards.
