CBS Sports ranks Jets’ Robert Saleh near bottom of head coach ratings

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh did not fare very well in CBS Sports’ head coach rankings. In it, Saleh was only named the 27th best coach in the NFL.

But at least they were a bit nice about it.

In slotting Saleh in such a disappointing position, the breakdown was promising. The bottom “tier” of coaches were called those that are “stuck in the mud.”

CBS Sports can at least see Saleh getting out of that territory.

Here’s the analysis on the Jets head coach:

Of all the coaches “stuck in mud,” Saleh feels like the most likely to break through, if only because the cupboard is much less bare thanks to a busy offseason that prioritized help for QB Zach Wilson. Still, if there isn’t also a significant step forward on “D,” his area of expertise coming from the 49ers, there will remain cause for concern.

While a tough spot to see the Jets coach land, there’s no reason to worry just yet. Saleh is entering his second season at the helm after a rookie year as a head coach which saw him guiding a team with a first-year QB and an injury riddled roster.

Saleh and the Jets might not leap into top-10 of the NFL in 2022–But there’s plenty of reason to believe a step forward can be expected next season.

While the breakdown on Saleh does provide that bit of hope, the most damming part is the likes of Kevin O’Connell, Nathaniel Hackett and others appearing ahead of Saleh. That specific grouping, the new coaches of the Minnesota Viking and Denver Broncos, respectively, appear at No. 24 and 23.

At least make them prove they’re ahead of Saleh… They haven’t even been a head coach for one game yet.
