The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has set the tariff value of gold at $1,500 per 10 grams from the earlier notified value of $1,395, while retaining tariff values for a range of other imported commodities, including silver, palm oil, crude soybean oil, brass scrap and areca nuts.
The revised tariff values will come into force from August 26, according to a Finance Ministry notification issued on August 25.
The $1,500-per-10-gram tariff value applies to gold in any form in respect of which the benefit of specified entries under Notification No. 45/2025-Customs is availed. The same tariff value will apply to specified gold bars, gold coins and gold findings.

The notification covers gold bars, other than tola bars, bearing the manufacturer's or refiner's engraved serial number and weight expressed in metric units. It also covers gold coins with gold content of at least 99.5%, along with gold findings, excluding imports of such goods through post, courier or baggage.
For silver, the tariff value has been retained at $2,097 per kilogram for specified forms of the metal. This includes silver in any form covered under specified customs notification benefits, as well as other specified forms of silver.
Among edible oils, the tariff value of crude palm oil remains at $1,208 per metric tonne, while RBD palm oil continues at $1,220 per metric tonne. Crude palmolein remains at $1,227 per metric tonne and RBD palmolein at $1,230 per metric tonne.
The tariff value of crude soybean oil has been retained at $1,257 per metric tonne. Brass scrap across all grades remains at $7,945 per metric tonne, while areca nuts continue to have a tariff value of $11,574 per metric tonne.
The CBIC notification substitutes the existing tariff value tables under the customs notification and will take effect from August 26.
