Despite the Miami Dolphins missing the playoffs for the fifth straight season, the team still got some great performances from some of their best players.
Cornerback Xavien Howard had one of his best seasons, and that earned him a nomination to Pro Football Writers of America’s All-AFC team for 2021. Howard shares the AFC team with New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson and was beat out for the All-NFL team by Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs and Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
In 2021, Howard finished the year with 50 total tackles, 16 passes defended, five interceptions, two forces fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. When targeted, he allowed a 52.7% completion percentage and a 72.6 passer rating.
Without the sixth-year corner, the Dolphins would’ve been much worse and wouldn’t have had a chance to go the postseason with two weeks left. That’s why with his contract situation looming, Miami needs to get it figured out and find a way to have him stay with the team.
