CB Ambry Thomas won’t be added to Colts’ roster

On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they claimed cornerback Ambry Thomas on waivers after he had been released the day prior by San Francisco.

However, on Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Colts failed Thomas on his physical, meaning he won’t be joining Indianapolis’ roster.

Thomas suffered a forearm injury during preseason that landed him on injured reserve and resulted in Thomas not playing any snaps this season. Schefter would add that the 49ers did clear Thomas “over a month ago.

Drew Rosenhaus, Thomas’ agent, told Schefter, “Ambry feels good and is ready to play.” Rosenhaus added, “My prediction is he will pass his next physical.”

Thomas is now a free agent and can sign wherever he pleases.

Thomas is a former third-round pick by the 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft. He’s played nearly 1,100 defensive snaps in his career, including a career-high 573 in 2023. Over his career, Thomas has allowed a catch rate of 70% at 12.0 yards per catch with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
