Caitriona Perry paid an emotional goodbye to viewers and said “a new chapter begins for me now” as she signed off the RTE Six One News last night.
The 42-year-old announced earlier this month she would be leaving the state broadcaster to join the BBC as their chief news presenter in the US.
Mum-of-two Caitriona will be based in Washington DC when she begins her new role at the end of the summer.

At the end of last night’s bulletin, Perry’s co-presenter David McCullagh said: “And that is the Six One News this Friday and is also our last bulletin with our friend and colleague Caitriona who is off to pastures new.
“On behalf of all us, Caitriona, it’s been a pleasure and we will miss you.”
A beaming Caitriona, who was wearing a red dress, said: “Thanks so much David, thanks for being a wonderful co-presenter and also a wonderful friend as well.
“I’ll miss you and all the team really a lot as well. Everyone in front of and behind the camera who keeps the show on the road and a really big thank you to you our viewers over the years and to those who sent me messages wishing me well, thank you for your kindness.
“It really has been an honour and a privilege to work for RTE News but a new chapter begins for me now. So for one last time, that was Friday’s Six One News from all the team, thanks for watching, have a great weekend and do take care.”
Caitriona first joined RTE in 2007 after stints with Newstalk and TodayFM.
