Welsh Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones attended ITV Lorraine showbiz correspondant Ross King's Burns Night celebration in LA on Tuesday, January 24, with her husband Michael Douglas. And during an interview with the Scotsman, the Wednesday actress claimed her movie star husband's attempt at a Welsh accent sounded similar to that of his Scottish one - which she said was rather "disconcerting".
Opening up the interview, 53-year-old Catherine spoke in a soft Scottish voice and said: "Here we are. It's going to be Robbie Burns night tonight. I have no tartan on. I was going to wear a rose in my hair but I'm Welsh! I will be sabotaged. But I'm here to support the celts, Scottish, you and the great Robbie Burns."
Upon hearing Catherine's Scottish accent, Ross stated how good American actor Douglas' Scottish accent was, which prompted him to replicate it. He said with a chuckle: "Oof, that's right. The last of my tribe.... my name is Douglas."

Catherine interjected with a grin: "Yes, but he sounds like that when he does a Welsh accent as well which is a little bit disconcerting. But it's ok, it's in the Celtic family."
And while the pair, who married in November 2000 and share two children, were there to celebrate the life of the great poet Robert Burns, Michael, 78, chimed in with: "I'm here to hear some Celt jokes."
Seizing this opportunity, Ross was quick to reel off a classic Scottish gag that tickled the actor. "You know how tell the clan of a Scotsman? You put your hand up his kilt and if he's a quarter pounder he's a MacDonald."
Later in the interview, Catherine spoke about the success of Tim Burton's Netflix hit Wednesday. Telling Ross how she found the part, she said: "When Tim Burton asked me to do it, I said 'whatever you want me to do'. It's such an iconic character, it turned out so much better than anybody anticipated. It's marvellous and through of eyes of Tim Burton, it's a lot of fun. I'm really happy to be part of it."
It's not the first time Catherine has mocked her husband of 22 years' Welsh accent. And although it might not be up to scratch, he has a great love for his wife's birth country. Speaking some years ago to the Daily Mail he said: "I’ve been to The Mumbles a number of times. The Gower Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen.
"They have a fair amount of rain – they could probably import that to California around now. But it’s a great community and I love playing golf over there. I can’t do the accent. My wife laughs me off the planet when I try."
