Catherine Tate makes Eurovision 2023 viewers 'scream' as she makes hidden reference some may have missed

Catherine Tate left Eurovision Song Contest fans 'screaming' as she put on a dazzling display while being the spokesperson for the UK. The comedian and actress delivered the results of the country's national jury – including the coveted "douze points" on Saturday night (May 13).

She announced the UK's votes live from the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool where the grand final of Eurovision 2023 took place. The city was chosen to host the 67th edition of the world's biggest music competition on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine.

Catherine, who is famed for her roles in dozens of films and TV shows including Doctor Who, The Office (US) and of course, The Catherine Tate Show, revealed that the UK jury had awarded its 12 points to Loreen from Sweden, who was later announced as this year's winner.

But as she delivered the results, in stunning, sparking rouge gown with feather edging around the strapless neckline, Eurovision viewers flocked to social media as they spotted her Doctor Who reference.

@813superwolf cheered: "CATHERINE TATE SAYING ALLONS Y IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY NIGHT." @MintopiaUK tweeted: "'Allons y' by Catherine Tate. Love the Doctor Who reference. #Eurovision2023." @clownboy13_ screamed: "CATHERINE TATE ON EUROVISION SAYING ALLONS-Y- I AM DEAD."

It came after the BBC released a new Doctor Who trailer revealing the episode titles for the 60th anniversary specials ahead of the grand final of the Eurovision.

Doctor Who will return for three special episodes, featuring David Tennant as the 14th doctor and Catherine playing his sidekick Donna Noble, to coincide with the celebrations marking six decades of the show.

Moments before Eurovision kicked off in Liverpool, viewers were given a glimpse of what to expect later this year when the Tardis lands. The teaser revealed the first of the three specials will be titled The Star Beast, while the second is called Wild Blue Yonder and the third is named The Giggle.

Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa is set to take over as the Time Lord after the three specials, alongside Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson, who is playing the Doctor’s companion Ruby Sunday. Gatwa’s first episode as the 15th doctor will air over the festive period, with 18-year-old Gibson becoming the youngest companion in the show’s history.
