An animal lover is desperately raising funds to prevent her pet cat having to have both its hind legs amputated after it was seriously injured by barbed wire. Holly Goldspink's cat Peanut was playing outside when he cut himself to the bone on the barbed wire.
Despite rushing him straight to a local vet, Peanut had to have his right leg amputated as a result of the trauma. After getting sepsis in his other back leg, which was also injured in the accident, surgeons say it is still salvageable - but the care he requires won't come cheap.
Holly, 31, from Fakenham, Norfolk, said: "As soon as I found him I rushed him straight to the vets, both his legs were punctured and there was so much blood. We waited 24 hours to find out his leg wasn't salvageable, then he caught sepsis in his left leg.
"That was five weeks ago and nothing got better. So we've had to give him to the vets to stay overnight until he's not sick anymore - but we have no idea how long that will be."
Holly's insurance covered the initial surgery and vet bills, although the second hospital trip is proving costly. The accident happened while she is on maternity leave after the birth of her new-born, which has put the family under huge strain.
A Go Fund Me has been set up to help with Peanut's vet care and currently Holly has passed her initial £500 target. She hopes the money will ensure he makes a full recovery and is returned back home.
