Cat Janice: Viral TikTok singer dies of cancer, aged 31

A US singer who went viral after dedicating her last song to her son has died from cancer, her family has said.

At the start of the year, Cat Janice shared a clip of her song Dance You Outta My Head, saying her "cancer had won" and that all proceeds from it would go to her son, aged seven.

On Wednesday, her family confirmed in a statement that the 31-year-old had died of sarcoma cancer.

In a statement, relatives said: “This morning, from her childhood home and surrounded by her loving family, Catherine peacefully entered the light and love of her heavenly creator.

“We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months.

“Cat saw her music go places she never expected and rests in the peace of knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music. This would not have been possible without all of you.”

Since the song was released in January, it has reached number one on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, and made its way into the top 10 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Her music video has also had 57 million views online.

Janice began writing and producing music as a teenager, which she released in her 20s.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, and posted regular updates on social media to her fans about her condition.

After four months of treatment, she was told she was cancer-free, but later discovered it had returned.

In a message to her followers, she posted: "I've got the rough news that cancer has won. I've fought hard but sarcomas are too tough.

"I reset all my music to go to my son. And I wanted to put out one more song for my birthday. I want my last song to bring joy and fun.

"It's all I've ever wanted through my battle with cancer."

Paying tribute to her on his personal Instagram, her brother Cubby said: “It's harrowing to have to face the next chapter of life without her. Without my mentor. My inspiration. My goal setter.

"The one who never gave me a break because she always knew I could do better. Any time I brought her a song, she would rip it apart and build it back up again to make it a piece of art that I was proud of.”
