An animal protection agency in Renfrewshire is appealing for support with veterinary fees after taking in a cat that had been shot.
Johnstone Cat Rescue is facing a hefty £1,400 bill to get one of its tenants an operation to end her suffering following a “horrifying and sickening” ordeal.
The team took in two moggies back in January after they were found “dumped” at the Gleniffer Braes.
They named them Ellie and Stan and after some love and care; the two feline friends, which they believe to be around two years old, appeared to be improving.
Ellie, however, continued to walk with a limp, something which they first ascribed to a sprain or something similarly innocuous, and which they hoped would pass with time.
But as the weeks and months went by, Ellie continued to struggle to walk on the affected limb, which led to the team to get her in for an X-ray.
What they discovered shocked and appalled them. The X-ray of Ellie’s leg showed that she had an airgun pellet wedged under her skin near the elbow. The pellet had fractured Ellie’s leg and the elbow had fused with it over time.
Vets said that Ellie would need to have the leg amputated to end her suffering and so now Johnstone Cat Rescue are left footing the bill for this poor creature.
It has started a JustGiving page to help them with the cost.
Margaret Finnigen, of Johnstone Cat Rescue, said: “This attack on a defenceless little cat has left us devastated and heartbroken that she'll have to endure surgery. Why oh why do good people die and yet the evil scum of the earth get to live on?
“Ellie's vet bill will be approx £1,400, which will take a huge chunk out of our funds.
