A person has been airlifted to hospital after being injured in an incident at a well-known beauty spot in west Wales. The accident happened at the Blue Lagoon in Abereiddy, Pembrokeshire.

A member of the public was able to get him onto a paddle board despite his injuries and get him to the sand safely. Once he was assessed at the lagoon, a UK Coastguard helicopter was called for from Caernarfon in north Wales. He was then placed in the helicopter and airlifted to a hospital in Bangor for further treatment.

According to a spokesman for HM Coastguard St Davids: “The team and HM Coastguard Fishguard were paged at 11.17am (Saturday, May 28), following reports of a young male with suspected spinal injuries at Blue Lagoon, Abereiddy. Casualty assessed on scene. Assistance requested from R936, based Caernarfon. Casualty packaged and transferred to Bangor Hospital for further assessment / treatment.

The extent of the male’s injuries are unknown.
