Castle Douglas businesses donate more than £2,000 worth of goodies for Ukraine fundraising raffle

More than £2,000 worth of prizes are set to be raffled off to raise money for Ukraine.

Businesses from across Castle Douglas have answered a rallying call from the team at Greek restaurant Nikos to donate items.

And such has been the show of support that plans for the draw have been pushed back to give people more chance to buy tickets.

Sam Priest from Nikos said: “Everyone wants to help but doesn’t really know how to, so I thought rather than everyone doing their own wee bits we could do one big thing.

“More than 50 businesses have got back and there’s more than £2,000 worth of things.

“I’m making up hampers that will have at least £200 worth of goods in them – there will be a food hamper, a health and wellbeing hamper, a booze hamper and others.

“There will also be a Nikos hamper because we’re hosting the draw and one of the guesthouses has donated a two-night stay with breakfast, so that will be a prize on its own.

“People who win will be able to come to choose their prize.”

Tickets can be bought from Nikos, various businesses in Castle Douglas and also through Facebook messenger and through the restaurant’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NikosCastleDouglas

Money raised will go to Massive Outpouring of Love which is transporting goods out to Ukraine.

The draw will take place on Saturday, March 26, in Nikos and will be livestreamed on Facebook.
