Introducing a one-way system in Castle Douglas remains on the agenda.
The council is looking for feedback on plans for an “active travel gateway” into the town.
And one option being looked at is “opportunities for one-way streets”.
Plans to carry out work at the roundabout between Ernespie Road, Queen Street, Cotton Street and Oakwell Road emerged last year, with the £50,000 price tag for the design prompting concern from local councillors.
The project aims to make it easier for people to walk and cycle, with pedestrianisation off the table but one-way systems an option.
A consultation on the scheme, called the Castle Douglas Active Travel Project, is under way with people asked to provide their thoughts.
The proposal aims to improve active travel, increase the number of dropped kerbs, create better access to the playpark at Market Hill and also improve bus stops on King Street and Market Street.
Consultants Stantec have also been asked to look at the potential for one-way streets and make recommendations about future cycling infrastructure linking to the roundabout.
Their goal is to come up with designs that will “create a fully accessible junction which will connect key destinations to existing facilities, providing a more vibrant environment for residents, businesses and visitors”.
The current online consultation, which can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/CastleDouglasActiveTravel, is open until Monday, July 3.
It will be followed by workshops and an engagement programme.
