Cash boost for Blantyre's youth development thanks to Asda

Blantyre's Terminal One youth project has received a cash boost of £1500 courtesy of the town's Asda store.

The cash was presented by Asda Blantyre community champion Mary Sutherland from the supermarket chain's under 18s Better Start Grant by the Asda Foundation, after the team applied for support of their youth activities.

Terminal One aims to support, develop, and inspire young people through the provision of positive and engaging youth work activities - these activities help improve the wellbeing of the young people.

With the generous donation the group intend to provide a new additional weekend service to run during the summer holidays with activities including dance, drama, and wellbeing workshops.

Joanne Tierney, project coordinator, Terminal One Youth Centre, said: “The Blantyre Youth Development Team are delighted and very grateful to receive the Better Starts Grant. This grant will go a long way in providing essential resources required to improve the wellbeing of our children and young people.

“The weekend service will ensure the participants have a healthy lunch and the opportunity to take part in free, inclusive workshops focusing on health and wellbeing. Thank you to the Asda Foundation, Asda Blantyre and our community colleague Mary for all their support in creating new opportunities and memories for our children and young people.”

Asda community champion, Mary Sutherland, said: "We are delighted to support the Blantyre Youth Development Team at Terminal One with the Asda Foundation Better Starts Grant. Our new store manager, Deen, was really impressed with their work and was thrilled to be able to accompany me to the deliver the 'big cheque'.

“The group are right on our doorstep, so we see all the great work they do first hand. We have a great relationship with all the leadership team and support them in any way we can - the group do invaluable work in our community.”
