Actor Casey Affleck recently expressed regret for not adhering to Hollywood's norms during his past award show experiences. Affleck, now 48, reflected on his role in the 2007 film 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,' where he portrayed the killer of the outlaw Jesse James, played by Brad Pitt. Despite receiving nominations for prestigious awards such as the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for his performance, Affleck admitted that he could have shown more respect during the award season.
Affleck recalled a specific incident where he was criticized for chewing gum at an award show, leading to perceptions of him being disrespectful. He acknowledged the significance of being recognized by his peers in the industry, emphasizing the importance of showing deference and appreciation at industry events.
The actor attributed his behavior during award shows to personal reasons, including having a newborn baby at home, which made him prioritize family over attending events. Affleck later achieved success with the film 'Manchester by the Sea' in 2016, winning both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Actor.
However, his victory was overshadowed by past sexual harassment allegations from a 2010 lawsuit involving his directorial work on 'I'm Not Here.' Affleck settled the case out of court and acknowledged allowing an unprofessional environment on set.
Reflecting on his experiences, Affleck expressed gratitude towards Amazon Films for supporting 'Manchester by the Sea' and regretted not acknowledging their contribution more prominently during the awards season. Despite initial cynicism, Affleck described feeling honored and humbled by his Oscar win, emphasizing the impact of being recognized by industry peers.
Currently, Affleck is set to star in the upcoming crime comedy 'The Instigators' alongside Matt Damon, directed by Doug Liman, scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on August 9.
