The case of a man charged with murdering his stepfather, assaulting a garda and attempting to escape from custody was yesterday heard with the defendant sitting inside a Garda van in the underground carpark of a courthouse.
Judge John Brennan decided to hear evidence this way as part of the charge against Adrian Zelek, 21, who is accused of the murder of Michal Gladyszewski, at 63 Westbury Woods, Enniscorthy, Wexford on May 25 last.
Gorey District Court was told yesterday that a neuropsychologist report on Mr Zelek has been ordered.

Defence solicitor Maria Murphy asked for a neuropsychologist report for her client to be made with Judge Brennan granting the application.
The defendant, of 63 Westbury Woods, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, is further charged with obstructing a garda and with assaulting a garda at Enniscorthy Garda Station on Saturday, May 27.
He is further charged with two counts of attempting to escape from Enniscorthy Garda Station while in garda custody, once on May 26 and again on May 27.
As well as the murder of Mr Gladyszewski, the accused is also charged with producing a kitchen knife in the course of a dispute at his own home on May 25.
Sergt. Victor Isdell sought a two week adjournment in the case while the DPP directions are awaited.
Judge Brennan granted the request and adjourned the case to June 12 and remanded the defendant in custody to that date while awaiting a DPP direction.
At a special court sitting on May 27, Detective Sergeant Paul Hayes from Enniscorthy Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution, and said he arrested the defendant at 27 Westbury Woods at 9.45pm on Thursday, May 25, and that the accused made no reply when charged with the alleged offences.
The sitting was heard before Judge Kevin Staunton, who, having noted the severity of the charges said ‘there was no question of bail’.
