Carter-Vickers USA omission 'does not sit well for the rest of Scottish football' claims Celtic hero

Cameron Carter-Vickers' USA squad omission does NOT sit well for the rest of Scottish football.

That's the verdict of former Celtic star Frank McAvennie who has admitted his surprise at Ange Postecoglou's star man being left out by interim head coach Anthony Hudson. The defender has been a key man at club level ever since his arrival at Parkhead and has played a major role in the Hoops' success under the Aussie boss and starred in the Champions League.

Carter-Vickers was present at the World Cup for the USA as the interim boss gave an insight into why certain players were left out. He explained: "There are a number of guys who are dealing with varying degrees of injury issues. We’ve spoken with the clubs, and in each case we have worked together to make a decision in the best interest of the player and to do our best to ensure they are available for us this summer."

The national team restart their CONCACAF Nations League campaign against Grenada and El Savador as they bid to defend their crown. McAvennie reckons Celtic boss Postecoglou will be delighted that his star man will be afforded a rest but says the decision to leave the stopper at home doesn't bode well for the rest of our game.

He told Football Insider: “I am surprised because [Cameron] Carter-Vickers has been different class.

“He is one of the standouts in the team. People keep forgetting there are a lot of good players and a lot of talent in Scotland. He is sticking his head above the parapet.

“Ange will be delighted because there is a few games coming up. But it does not sit well for the rest of Scottish football.“
