Carsphairn kids enjoy a day at the moves with Driftwood Cinema

Kids in Carsphairn went to the movies on Sunday afternoon.

The Carsphairn Young Deciders group used a donation from Vattenfall ahead of the South Kyle Community Investment Fund launching next year to bring social enterprise Driftwood Cinema to the village.

And they put on a free showing of popular BAFTA winning Disney film Encanto, with children from Carsphairn and the wider Glenkens attending.

Younger kids were kept entertained with activities and there was plenty of free popcorn and refreshments for children and adults.

It is planned to hold monthly free children’s film shows in Carsphairn’s Lagwyne Hall. The next screening will be on April 24 with the film being chosen from a list provided by the children.

There’s lots of other activities in Carsphairn for youngsters now that the pandemic is subsiding and spring is on the way, including basketball after school and craft workshops which will start later in the spring.

There’s also Saturday morning’s Bairn Banter, providing lots of activities for younger children and a chance for the grown-ups to have a blether.

Nettles in the Garden by The Travelling Shadow Theatre, part of the Puppet Animation Festival facilitated by Dumfries & Galloway Arts Live, is also taking place in Carsphairn on April 9.

This is a musical family puppet show for children aged two and over and babies who are invited to bring their giggles and share in this delightful world.

The Carsphairn Facebook page carries information on all the activities.
