Carson Beck’s performance against No. 1 Alabama on Saturday might’ve not just lost the game, but also some of his status as a top draft prospect. Around the most popular draft mocks, he has been sliding down from his quarterback No. 1 spot. There are several that don’t even have Beck as a first round pick anymore.
In the Athletic‘s and USA TODAY‘s most recent mocks, Beck slides down to No. 10 as the second or third QB drafted behind Shedeur Sanders and Quinn Ewers. Though CBS‘s and Yahoo‘s recent mock draft, you have to scroll down to the 21st pick to see him selected. He is behind more QBs, such as Cam Ward, Jalen Milroe, and Garrett Nussmeier. Beck is selected 28th in Tankathon‘s mock draft after Week 4 in the NFL. In PFF‘s recent mock of the first round, Beck is nowhere to be seen.
As mentioned, some of that has to do with the glut of quarterbacks on the board. Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Quinn Ewers are all seniors, while Jalen Milroe and Garrett Nussmeier are juniors that could surely forgo their senior season with a strong junior season.
Beck threw three touchdowns and 439 yards on 50 attempts against Alabama, but he also threw three interceptions and had just a 54% completion percentage in the loss.
At the beginning of the year, most draft pundits were considering Beck the top quarterback of the 2025 draft, or at the very least tied with Shedeur Sanders. It goes to show how a slow start to the season can change media perception on a dime.
