Cars have been spotted going the wrong way on the A77 as the evacuation from the crash site continues.
Motors have been spotted going in the opposite direction on the southbound carriageway at Grassyards following a smash earlier this afternoon.
It's understood two motors have been involved in a serious smash with the road closed entirely on the road to Ayr.
Police have physically blocked vehicles from using the slip to the southbound carriageway from the Bellfield Interchange.
Emergency services are understood to be at the scene of the crash and drivers are experiencing lengthy delays as a result of the collision.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "A77 Kilmarnock Road Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident, two vehicles involved from A71 (Bellfield Interchange) to B730 ( Bogend ). Congestion to A77 Grassyards Interchange. Affecting traffic heading towards Ayr."
Traffic Scotland added: "The Southbound carriageway remains closed at Bellfield Interchange. Emergency services are in attendance and a diversion route is in place Delays of approx. 20 minutes from Grassyards to Bellfield Interchange."
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
