People in Long Eaton say that cars blocking the pavements is ‘dangerous’ and are worried others may be hurt. Reports of people parking on the pathway on Salisbury Street, Long Eaton, were put on a local Facebook group. The cars ‘blocked access’ for pedestrians which would leave them having to walk on the road.
Residents shared ‘how annoying’ and dangerous it is that cars are blocking the pedestrian path and say that ‘people just don’t care.’ Ben Hayes, 35, works in the ambulance service, told Nottinghamshire Live that the issue is a real problem.
Mr Hayes said: “It’s annoying - there’s similar things with cyclists riding on the pavement. Nothing seems to be done about it - it’s treated as if it's nothing. It’s very annoying - since my partner is pregnant we’ll have to wander around with a buggy. Traffic wardens don’t seem to care.”
Louise Lewis, who is 27 and works in a cafe, from Beeston, says it could cause a serious issue.
She said: “It’s normally vans. It’s there because people just don’t care. With old people and motor scooters - you can’t see the cars on the road. If you come on the road the cars can’t see. It’s dangerous - I’m surprised on ones been hit, people come up here fast. Parking down here is terrible anyway - there’s more cars than roads. Two cars to one house and allocated one space.”
Another resident who wished not to be named told Nottinghamshire Live it's a problem in many places. She said: “I suppose for people with pushchairs it’s annoying, It happens all over.
“If it’s a busy road even when you’ve got a child out at the age to be running and messing about and there’s a car there. It’s annoying, it’s not safe.”
A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “Our civil enforcement officers regularly patrol this area and where they see vehicles contravening the double yellow line no waiting restrictions - as these are - they can issue penalty charge notices.
“Where there are yellow lines on the road next to the pavement we enforce the yellow line restrictions as we would if a car was parked on the road. If local residents can provide any additional information about when cars are parking in the area that can help our patrols. To report any parking issues, please email parking@derbyshire.gov.uk or call 01629 538671 (office hours).”
