Jamie Carragher has revealed why he believes Mohamed Salah will sign a new contract with Liverpool.
Liverpool are determined to keep their star who already has 28 goal contributions this season in all competitions.
There is uncertainty over the Egyptian winger’s future with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Reports have suggested that Liverpool have offered Salah a new contract though an agreement is not close to being reached.
Liverpool legend Carragher though has explained why he feels the 32-year-old will come to terms on a contract extension.
Carragher Optimistic Over Salah Signing New Liverpool Contract
Sharing his thoughts on the Stick To Football podcast, Carragher revealed why he feels Salah will sign a new contract.
He said: “I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say this is because of his age. When you’re on that type of money and you’re talking about getting a raise – a raise isn’t 10 or 20 grand a week.
“How many attackers do Real Madrid have, Barcelona are in dire straits financially, PSG are nowhere near the team Liverpool are – there are only four or five teams that can realistically win the Champions League and Liverpool are one of them.
“He will stay as I’m not sure there are too many options. He’s not ready to go to Saudi (Arabia) – he can do that in three years’ time. Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool”.
Sticking points on the new Liverpool contract for Salah will be the wages and length of the deal. Carragher hit out at Salah over the player’s lack of transparency over negotiations.
He said: “If you come out and say that the club haven’t done this and the club haven’t done that, then give us all (the story) and we can then we can decide.
“My point is that we know they’re in discussions, he did this two years ago where he tried to put pressure on the club. He’s a world-renowned superstar and I’m desperate for him to stay, but I’m looking at it from the club’s point of view where we don’t know who’s in the right or wrong.”
Carragher Under Fire For Salah Comments
Jamie Carragher has come under fire for his comments regarding Mohamed Salah and whether he signs a new Liverpool contract situation.
Liverpool star Andy Robertson revealed Carragher had received stick in the dressing room over his comments regarding Salah’s contract situation.
It came after Carragher said he was ‘very disappointed’ with Salah for speaking to the media about his contract situation. Carragher said that Salah would be ‘selfish’ if he or his agent put comments out to the media.
Liverpool fans were unhappy with Carragher naming Cole Palmer as the ‘best player over the last 18 months’.
One account criticised the former England international by saying, ‘be serious, @Carra23. Trying way too hard’, and the pundit posted in reply: ‘Maybe you try harder at putting the full quote out!
‘I said he’s been the best player over 18 months which he has in my eyes. And you probably know I said that but your desperation for likes & retweets knows no bounds!!
