Luckily for the Carolina Panthers, Sunday was a day for Falconing.
Here’s everything we know from the second win of the 2023 season:
Final score: Panthers 9, Falcons 7
Keys to the game
- As expected, this was a busy afternoon for running back Chuba Hubbard. The third-year rusher helped pace a steady ground attack that resulted in 129 yards on 36 carries.
- Also as expected, the rainy and windy conditions helped out an already stout Panthers defense. The unit held the Falcons to just 204 yards and forced two turnovers.
- Perhaps not as expected, quarterback Bryce Young put forth one of his most poised performances of his rough rookie campaign. He kept his offense intact through the challenging conditions en route to his second-highest passer rating of the season (93.6) and a remarkable game-winning drive.
It was over when . . .
Down 7-6 with 7:35 remaining, Young and the Panthers embarked on what would be the final possession of the game. Propelled by clutch completions of 19 yards, 20 yards and 18 yards as well as some hard-nosed running from Hubbard, Carolina set themselves for a game-winning 23-yard field goal with one second left.
Kicker Eddy Piñeiro clinched the team’s second win on his second walk-off of the season.
Players of the game
- RB Chuba Hubbard: 22 carries, 87 yards
- QB Bryce Young: 18-of-24, 167 yards
- K Eddy Piñeiro: three-of-three on field goal attempts
What's next?
The 2-12 Panthers will stay at home for Week 16 to host the 6-7 Green Bay Packers.
