Carol Vorderman says 'I must be doing something right' as she adds 'I'll let my record do the talking'

Carol Vorderman claims her words have been twisted after being labelled an “education snob”. It comes after a feud with UK minister Johnny Mercer and his wife, with other MPs now getting involved.

Around a week ago, Carol argued that the Plymouth Moor View MP was "wrong" for saying that using a food bank is "a personal decision" for military people. The Countdown legend says her late mother, Jean, worked five jobs to provide for Carol and her siblings.

She said: “Must be doing something right… my words about anti-foodbank MP & his wages being twisted by the Tories today into trying to label me an education 'snob'... what a joke… they can't think of anything else to have a go at.... HOWEVER, I'll let my record in education do the talking inc helping 500,000 children with their maths during lockdown… giving bursaries for young people and schools with disadvantaged backgrounds like mine....helping Blunkett introduce the numeracy hour... governor of inner city school... education books for decades... recognised STEM ambassador... I could go on.”

Her dedicated fans have been backing her up in the comments, and have shared the post far and wide- with over 10,000 retweets so far. In the post, Carol also added: “Always a believer in encouraging young people to achieve their best, in whichever way that comes around, to be strong and happy and confident. Anything else being espoused is offensive, targeted, predictable Right Wing nonsense. PS Tories… this attack won't work. It just makes us more determined. PPS thanks for all your support... we'll beat them in the end. Please RT.”

Before this, Carol also claimed that Mercer, 41, and his wife Felicity Cornelius-Mercer, 43, who works in his office, had a "total taxpayers' salary of approx. £120,000" and a "total cost to taxpayer" of £373,663. Then, in response to Carol, Mercer wrote: "You are grim" along with an emoji of someone throwing up.

Redcar and Cleveland MP Jacob Young hit back on his fellow Tory MP's behalf, branding the maths whizz a 'snob.'

"I grew up watching this woman on TV," Young wrote. "I was good at maths and preferred the numbers part of Countdown. A degree wasn’t right for me, so I did an apprenticeship instead. What a horrible little snob she has exposed herself to be."
