Carol Vorderman makes wish as Queen's coffin travels to Edinburgh

Carol Vorderman has made a wish as Queen Elizabeth II's coffin makes the journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh.

Her Majesty's oak coffin left Balmoral, where she passed away on Thursday (September 8), several hours ago after six gatekeepers at the castle moved it from the ballroom to a hearse ahead of the journey of just over 100 miles.

Thousands have people have lined the streets to pay their respects as the hearse travels six hours to the Scottish capital before flying to London ahead of the Queen's state funeral on Monday, September 19. And now Carol Vorderman has taken to Instagram to share her thoughts on Her Majesty's journey.

Posting on her story, Carol said: "The roads and steets lined in Scotland by people to pay their respects, and rightly so that they have their opportunity to do so. I wish that the same would happen from Edinburgh to London.

"So many millions in other parts of our nation who can't afford to get to London would want to do the same."

The monarch's coffin left the estate at around 10am. Later today, the Queen will be received at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh – the monarch’s official Scottish residence – by a Guard of Honour formed by The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The Countdown star also shared a touching post to her Instagram paying her respects to the country's longest serving monarch.

Carol said: "Queen's coffin begins it's long journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh, and then onto London, there will be many of us who will shed tears for those we lost, particularly for our mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers and Uncles and Aunts who were born and lived through smiliar decades to Her Majesty.

"They saw the biggest changes the world has ever known, bigger than our generations will ever see. I'm remembering my Mum right now as I'm sure you're remembering those you loved too.

"May the journey be calm, and may we remember them all as we know they would want to be remembered. Tears of grief, and also for the joy of having loved them fully."
