Carol Vorderman gives Lorraine Kelly health update as she's forced to stand in on ITV show

Carol Vorderman has assured viewers that Lorraine Kelly is 'feeling great' and could even be back on her ITV show by the end of the week after being forced off air by Covid.

Many viewers were expecting to see Lorraine in the studio on Monday as Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid crossed live to see what was coming up, but rather than the Scottish presenter greeting her it was Countdown legend Carol who appeared on screen.

Just over an hour before cameras were due to role on Lorraine, the lady herself took to Twitter to reveal that she'd tested positive for coronavirus, having managed to avoid it for the past two years. She told her followers: "Well the Covid has finally got me and I tested positive at the weekend. Thanks to the vaccine it’s not too bad and I hope to be back at work very soon. Huge thanks to @carolvorders who will be hosting @lorraine until I’m back."

Ahead of an unexpected and last minute stint as Lorraine host, Carol took to Twitter to share some backstage photos and wrote: "Wishing our Lorraine a properly speedy recovery from a bout of Covid. Loads of love coming your way from your team here as ever. Meanwhile you're stuck with me on the show @lorraine for a few days until the Boss is back.."

After Lorraine was noticeably absent for the second day in a row, with Carol once again filling in, Susanna asked for an update on how her ITV colleague was, to which Carol replied that Lorraine was 'feeling great' and could even be back in the studio by the end of the week, if she tests negative.

Carol, who was joined by Christine McGuinness for a candid interview during Tuesday's show, has thanked loyal Lorraine viewers for their support, as some have called for her to get more hosting opportunities on the channel. One wrote: "I loved seeing you on Lorraine show this morning," while another fan urged her to get a full time job back on Countdown.
