Carol Kirkwood labelled BBC Breakfast viewers ‘mean’ in a frank admission during a debate on the BBC One programme about Christmas.
Appearing on the breakfast programme in the days after Christmas Day, Carol, 60, was joined by Nina Warhurst, 42, and Charlie Stayt, 60, for Thursday's instalment of the show.
As the hosts in the studio crossed over to Carol for the latest weather updates, they discussed an ongoing debate on the programme about Christmas presents.
Nina and Charlie had asked BBC Breakfast viewers to share their disappointing Christmas gifts on the programme and then asked Carol her opinion on the debate.
Nina asked: “Did you get some good Christmas presents this year?” to which the newly engaged presenter said she had.
Nina continued: “Have you ever had one where you thought, ‘Oh, that's not quite hit the spot?’”
The weather presenter then refused to answer the question directly, saying she would never ‘admit it’.
Carol said: “Do you know what Nina? Even if I had, I wouldn't admit it because somebody's gone out and spent their hard-earned cash and thought about buying a gift.”
She added: “So that would just be mean.”
Nina then laughed as she said her co-star had proven to be ‘much nicer’ than viewers, as many had got in touch with the programme to share their own disappointing gifts from their nearest and dearest.
"How many people are sending you stuff?," asked Charlie.
Nina admitted: "Well, Jane's got in touch with me on Twitter. Her husband was brave enough to get her a large, collapsible laundry basket which he says is, 'The Rolls-Royce of collapsible laundry baskets."
The BBC Breakfast presenter joked: "No comment to Jane or her husband."
This comes after BBC Breakfast fans were left convinced that Carol has wed her fiancee in secret since announcing her engagement on the show earlier this year.
Viewers were quick to notice her supposed ‘change of rings’, believing that wedding bells must have been in order for the weather reporter.
Back in May this year, the 60-year-old confirmed her engagement to her partner Steve on the show after he proposed whilst they were on a picnic.
Confirming the happy news at the time, Carol said: "Yes, I got engaged. We got engaged when we were on holiday.
"So it's lovely news and we're both thrilled, so thank you!"
Jon Kay, a fellow presenter on the show said in response to her engagement: "We're all thrilled. We're all so chuffed for you Carol, on behalf of all the team here and everybody watching, I'm sure. Absolutely delighted."
She told viewers at the time that she ‘wasn’t rushing’ into her wedding day, but nonetheless, fans are convinced that she may have already tied the knot with Steve.
