BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was absent from the latest instalment of the BBC One morning show in an apparent shake-up.
BBC One viewers are accustomed to the 60-year-old presenter giving the day’s forecast on the show, however it was her co-star Sarah Keith-Lucas who presented her segments during Monday's episode.
Jon Kay told BBC viewers that Sarah will be on hand to present the weather for the ‘next few days’ but did not directly address Carol's absence from the show.
It comes after the BBC One studio turned awkward when host Ben Thompson confused Sarah and Carol earlier this month.
In the first few minutes of the show the hosts told viewers what was coming up on the programme before getting an update on the weather.
Ben said: “Let's check in with Carol on what the weather is doing. Good morning to you Carol!”
Ben then cut himself off as he said: “Oh it's Sarah indeed!” before his co-star Nina Warhurst joked: “Carol, you've changed!”
A panicked Ben apologised and Sarah said with a laugh: “A surprise Carol today!”
Sarah then launched into her weather report, and when she was finished Ben apologised again.
He said: "I'm so sorry Sarah!, I hadn't turned to look at the screen and there you are of course! Nice to have you with us this morning and I'm sorry to call you Carol!"
Sarah replied with a laugh: "I'll forgive you. Just this once."
This comes after Carol showed off her engagement ring as she revealed her fiancé had popped the question while live on air in May.
The presenter surprised fans when she got engaged to her man Steve a week before her birthday at the end of May.
Carol was congratulated by her BBC Breakfast colleagues Sally Nugent and Jon Kay as she reported from the Chelsea Flower Show.
Sally helped Carol break the news, saying: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol.”
Carol looked down at her hand smiling before she replied: “Oh that one, thank you Sal. It is rather nice, I got engaged.” She beamed as she gave viewers a glimpse at the ring.
Sally congratulated the bride-to-be, telling the weather presenter: “Congratulations from all of us, it’s the happiest news, we are so, so delighted, congratulations. Can we confirm to the nation what’s happened?”
Former Strictly contestant Carol quipped: “Oh thank you, yes, I think you just have Sal! Yes, I got engaged, we got engaged when we were on holiday, so it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled. So, thank you!”
