Carlos Sainz treated and Charles Leclerc hits deck in football game days before Monaco GP

Carlos Sainz was spotted with a bandage around his leg after taking part in a charity football match just days before the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

Sainz and his team-mate Charles Leclerc were both involved in the match at the Stade Louis II which saw famous faces from the Formula 1 world go up against a team of celebrities. The likes of Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly and even the sport's chief executive Stefano Domenicali also took part.

The event is for a good cause as it raises funds for a children's charity. But anyone taking part in a football match always runs the risk of doing damage to themselves.

And Sainz has some Ferrari fans worried after appearing to do exactly that. He was substituted during the second half of the match and was spotted receiving treatment on his right thigh, sporting a worried expression on his face.

It is unclear whether or not the Spaniard has done any significant damage. Sainz was spotted putting ice on his ankle after taking part in the 2022 edition of the charity event but did not miss the race weekend.

One thing for certain is that his Ferrari team-mate Leclerc will be suffering from a bruised ego after he fell flat on his face just 90 seconds into the contest.

On home soil, the Monegasque attempted to make a tackle but got himself in a tangle and ended up with his face in the turf. To compound his embarrassment, he later fluffed his lines when presented with a glorious chance to score by Sainz – only to shoot straight at the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Sainz has been in a more positive mindset regarding his on-track exploits. Despite his difficulties to adapt to this generation of F1 cars, he declared last week that he is feeling much more confident about it these days.

"I feel like I understand how I need to drive this generation of cars," said the Spaniard. "I understand how I want to set up the car to my liking, or at least this generation of cars to my liking. And that leaves me with less variables to think about going into a race weekend.

"It hasn't been an easy start, as I said, but I feel like even if the car is possibly even trickier than last year, I understand that trickiness better. And I can set up and drive the car in my way."
