Leigh Bromby has opened up on former Leeds United assistant manager Carlos Corberan’s reasoning behind his sudden Huddersfield Town exit. Corberan’s resignation from his role as Town boss was announced on Thursday just three weeks before the start of the new season.
The 39-year-old led the Terriers to within just 90 minutes of the Premier League as they reached the Championship play-off final in May, when they were defeated 3-0 by Nottingham Forest. Town had been preparing for the new campaign with Corberan at the heart of their plans as they harnessed hopes of another successful campaign.
However, speaking to the regional press on Thursday evening, former Leeds defender and current Town head of football operations Bromby revealed that one of the reasons behind Corberan’s exit was that ‘he felt he couldn’t replicate last season’.

He said: "In football you have to be prepared all the time. People will be surprised by the decision. Carlos has had a lot of success. It's been a great period, particularly last year, and we didn't want to lose Carlos. He's made a decision to leave the club and what we have to do now is prepare to move forward and be better than what we were last season.
"Within the club we always had to be prepared. This time was always going to come. Was the timing perfect? No because we have a game in three weeks. But we're in a position as a club to move forward.
"Ultimately Carlos is a really good man. The first person I employed was Carlos because I was really impressed by him. Ultimately he's a good person.
"He was honest with us and felt he couldn't replicate last season. There's definitely no fall-out. He felt he couldn't replicate last season. When someone stands in front of you and is really honest, you have to respect their decisions."
Bromby was asked whether there'd been any indication inside the club in recent weeks that Corberan was heading for the exit door.
He said: "I think when someone does so well and particularly towards the end of the season, he had such a positive influence in the team, there's going to be natural interest. He over-achieved with the team, he integrated young players, everything we want from a head coach.
"That means there's going to be interest. We know that. Did we think he'd leave three weeks before the season? No, but we're all adults and been in a room together and discussed it. Carlos didn't think he could replicate what he did last season and decisions then have to be made."
Despite reports from Football Insider linking Corberan with a return to Leeds, Bromby says the Spanish manager insisted to club chiefs that he isn't leaving in order to take on another job elsewhere.
Bromby said: "No, that's not the indication I had. He was honest and said he doesn't have another club to walk into."
