Rangers have apparently spoken to former star Carlos Bocanegra over their vacant director of football role after Ross Wilson left last month.
In a board shake-up, Wilson left Rangers for Nottingham Forest last season, leaving Light Blues chiefs scrambling around to find a replacement ahead of the business end of the transfer window - despite already bringing in four signings in Jack Butland, Dijon Sterling, Sam Lammers and Kieran Dowell.
Many former Rangers players have been touted including Craig Moore, Christian Berlinger and others; but it appears that the American could well be in the hat for the vacancy with time ticking according to the Athletic, who say he has held talks with the Ibrox side. Bocanegra played for Rangers towards the end of his career, with the majority of his playing career spent playing for Fulham in the Premier League, alongside moves to Rennes and Saint-Etienne.

His move saw Rangers tumble down to the fourth tier, where he made three appearances before joining Racing Santander.
But just one year after announcing his retirement, he joined Atlanta United as their technical director. It's a role he has held for eight years, with the Georgia-based outfit having won the MLS Cup in 2018 and the US Open Cup in 2019.
As Atlanta United's technical director, Bocanegra signed Giorgos Giakoumakis from Celtic in the winter and has also brought in top talents such as Thiago Almada and Santiago Sosa to the club - where he could tap further into the South American market should he join the Light Blues.
Rangers have brought in American talents in the past, with the likes of James Sands, Maurice Edu and Bocanegra himself joining the club - whilst Jose Cifuentes looks close to a move. But the pick of the bunch could join if Bocanegra does move over.
