Carlo Ancelotti makes exciting Darwin Nunez prediction as Liverpool striker included in 'new wave' claim

Darwin Nunez has been praised by Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian insisting he is part of a 'new wave' of attacking talent.

The Uruguayan striker has hit the ground running following his summer move, hitting the net nine times in 18 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side. Returning following Uruguay's exit from the World Cup, the 23-year-old will hope to spearhead Liverpool's attack in the second half of the season as the Reds chase down an all-important top-four spot.

Following on from his tenuous links with Real Madrid over the past few days, it is former Everton boss Ancelotti who has praised the former Benfica man, with the Italian suggesting a new crop of exciting forwards destined to hit the top in the years to come.

''We are in a phase of transition,'' began Ancelotti when speaking to Spanish publication MundoDeportivo. ''We are running out of Ibra, Ronaldo, Suárez, Cavani... Messi and Benzema are 35, Lewandowski will celebrate them next year. The new ones are Mbappé, Richarlison, Haaland, Álvarez and Núñez. I didn't know Gonçalo Ramos"

Liverpool will have to rely on Nunez's goal threat as the Premier League nears its return, with the news Luis Diaz has suffered an injury setback whilst away with the side in Dubai. Diaz hasn't featured for the Reds since sustaining a knee problem during the first half of the 3-2 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on October 9.

Still competing on four fronts, some have suggested Klopp may be forced to delve into the January transfer market, as injuries once again seem to have reared their ugly head at Anfield this winter.
