Carlo Ancelotti in mischievous mood after Celtic rout as Real Madrid boss bigs himself up

Carlo Ancelotti was in jovial mood after Real Madrid put Celtic to the sword at the Bernabeu.

The reigning kings of Europe put on a five-star show in their final Champions League group stage fixture as Luka Modric, Rodrygo, Marco Asensio, Vinicius Jr all got on the scoresheet. Los Blancos needed a win to be sure of progressing to the knockout stage as group winners and they made light work of Ange Postecoglou 's men on Wednesday night.

Ancelotti was impressed by his side's performance, especially in the wake of losing away to RB Leipzig in their penultimate match. Two penalties set Real on their way and although the Italian boss admitted this was "unusual", he certainly wasn't complaining as it set the tone for a comfortable night on home turf. Ancelotti even jokingly afforded himself some credit for the result - although quickly stressed that a good manager is "the least important" piece of the puzzle.

He told BT Sport: “I think we played well. We started well and were concentrated. We wanted to play a good game as the last one wasn’t so good and we did well.

“We had a lot of opportunities but to open the game with two penalties was unusual. Celtic had an opportunity to get back with their penalty but we were really focused.

“A good team has a good goalkeeper, good defenders and good strikers – and a good coach, although this is the least important thing!”
