Real Madrid are ready to wait until 2024 and sign Kylian Mbappe, rather than bring in Harry Kane this summer.
Los Blancos could sign a new centre forward in the coming months following the departure of Karim Benzema. The Frenchman confirmed his exit last Sunday after 14 years at the club. Benzema was out of contract at the end of the June and has since decided to sign for Saudi Arabia side Al-Ittihad, who are managed by Nuno Espirito Santo.
Carlo Ancelotti wants sign a striker in the summer transfer window and is eyeing up a move for Tottenham hotshot Kane. The 29-year-old has scored 30 Premier League goals this season and his record is only bettered by Manchester City's Erling Haaland. Kane has one year left on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was reported earlier in the week that Los Blancos were plotting an audacious £100million bid for England international Kane. However, a fresh claim from Relevo has revealed that Real are unsure on whether to go for Kane this summer and instead wait to sign Paris Saint-Germain hitman Mbappe next year.
Mbappe could be set to leave PSG in 2024 after only signing a new mega-money deal last summer. The France forward has scored 41 goals in 43 appearances for the French club this season and came close to joining Real in July 2022, before he performed a dramatic U-Turn and stayed at PSG.
It is understood Real president Florentino Perez is keen to save money and try and sign Mbappe in January - just six months before he will become a free transfer. Mbappe retains a year option to extend his contract until 2025 but that must be agreed with all parties by a June 30 deadline.
But Real's plan to wait for Mbappe is frustrating Ancelotti. The ex-Chelsea boss has gone from 'euphoria to fear' as Los Blancos recalculate their route to buy a new centre forward. Kane was at the top of their transfer list earlier this week but Mbappe's availability next summer has now come into question.
Another option Los Blancos are considering is Chelsea star Kai Havertz. On Sunday, it was reported that the German international was edging closer to sealing a £70m move to the Santiago Bernabau. Havertz is Chelsea's top scorer this season, but he has struggled with consistency since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2020.
Chelsea are set for a mass exodus this summer after spending almost £600m since Todd Boehly took over a year ago. Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang are amongst the high-profile names that have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.
As for Real, they completed their first summer signing on Wednesday with the arrival of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham is poised to join Real on a six-year contract after the Spanish giants agreed to pay an initial fee of €103million (£88m), with a further €30m (£25m) due in potential add-ons.
